From mutual aid networks to community foundations and digital crowdfunding\, Americans have consistently turned to voluntary giving to meet shared needs and express shared values. As the United States marks its 250th anniversary\, this tradition of charitable giving invites both celebration and honest examination as it maintains deep continuities and experiences profound changes. The past decade has brought significant pressure to bear on the landscape of giving: Shifting tax policy has altered incentives for everyday donors\, public funding gaps have increased need\, and declining institutional trust has changed where and how people choose to give. At the same time\, new models of collective and community-led giving are emerging in response. \nAs part of its 30th anniversary\, the Urban Institute’s Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy brings together researchers\, philanthropic leaders\, policymakers\, and sector infrastructure actors to examine the evolving landscape of charitable giving and philanthropy in its fifth Giving Innovation Summit. At the same time\, rural nonprofits – and often nonprofits in other geographies – consistently cite limited capacity as one of their biggest barriers to engaging in the grantmaking process. \nThis session shares emerging research and real-world observations on how AI is being used throughout the nonprofit sector and how funders are experiencing the resulting shifts in volume\, clarity\, storytelling\, and capacity across rural nonprofits. DESCRIPTION:As a donor\, do you ever question whether your donations are having the impact you expect?  Do you often feel like you are just writing checks to organizations because they asked or because it makes you feel good? \nOver the past eight years\, our program\, Giving for Impact\, has made a tremendous difference in how people donate and partner with nonprofits. \nThe sole purpose of our training is to equip attendees with knowledge and help in developing relationships with the nonprofit community.  The training encourages individuals to learn more about who they are as donors by teaching them to identify their personal mission\, vision\, and core values to create charitable impact.  As a donor\, they will be equipped to know how to find fulfillment in their giving. \nOnce an individual understands who they are as a donor\, the program will build on that understanding by equipping them with knowledge of what a strong nonprofit organization looks like.  Donors will learn how to ask the right questions when meeting with a nonprofit and how to determine if they are actually making a difference.  Participants will learn what a healthy nonprofit partnership looks like and be able to create their own personal plan and philosophy of giving. \nThe 2026 Level I sessions are planned for March 5 and April 9. \nGiving for Impact is a great training program for individual donors as well as family foundations\, financial advisors\, wealth managers\, CPA’s\, estate planners\, attorneys or trust advisors. Whatever your audience\, weaving the data into a story is what communicates your findings to others\, whether it be a small data set\, large data set\, or multiple data sets. \nWHO SHOULD ATTEND? \nAnyone interested in taking the next step from understanding their data and visualizing it\, to telling a cohesive story to others about their data. \nWHAT WILL YOU LEARN? \n\nTo find the compelling narrative in your data\nTo connect facts that build a compelling argument\nTo use compelling graphics to communicate your point\nTo tailor your delivery to your audiences needs\n\nUSEFUL KNOWLEDGE TO HAVE BEFORE ATTENDING \nNo prior knowledge is required\, but you may find it useful to attend the Module 1A: Framing the Problem workshop prior to this one. In that workshop you learn how to frame problems so that you have specific and measurable questions that can help you meet your goals. You may also want to consider attending the SAVI Data\, Tools\, and Other Resources workshop which explores where and how to find data in SAVI.  \nThis offering is hosted by The Polis Center\, the creators of SAVI.
