SUMMARY:Giving For Impact – Alumni
DESCRIPTION:As a donor\, do you ever question whether your donations are having the impact you expect?  Do you often feel like you are just writing checks to organizations because they asked or because it makes you feel good? \nOver the past eight years\, our program\, Giving for Impact\, has made a tremendous difference in how people donate and partner with nonprofits. \nThe sole purpose of our training is to equip attendees with knowledge and help in developing relationships with the nonprofit community.  The training encourages individuals to learn more about who they are as donors by teaching them to identify their personal mission\, vision\, and core values to create charitable impact.  As a donor\, they will be equipped to know how to find fulfillment in their giving. \nOnce an individual understands who they are as a donor\, the program will build on that understanding by equipping them with knowledge of what a strong nonprofit organization looks like.  Donors will learn how to ask the right questions when meeting with a nonprofit and how to determine if they are actually making a difference.  Participants will learn what a healthy nonprofit partnership looks like and be able to create their own personal plan and philosophy of giving. \nGiving for Impact is a great training program for individual donors as well as family foundations\, financial advisors\, wealth managers\, CPA’s\, estate planners\, attorneys or trust advisors. Regardless if you donate $50.00 per year or $50\,000.00 per year\, Giving for Impact is for anyone who desires to have a clearer understanding of themselves as a donor and has a desire to make a greater impact through their giving. \nJamie D. Levy\, from JDLevy & Associates\, an international speaker\, consultant\, and adjunct professor at Indiana University School of Philanthropy\, IU Fund Raising School\, and IU Paul H. O’Neill School of Public and Environment Affairs (IU SPEA)\, will guide you through understanding the strategies involved in making wise decisions regarding your philanthropic giving.  To learn more about Mr. Levy and JDLevy & Associates visit their website www.JDLevyAssociates.com \nThis training is supported through donations from Jim and Carol Havens\, JDLevy & Associates\, Community Foundation Alliance\, and the Welborn Baptist Foundation.  These donations allow Giving for Impact to offer this series at no cost to you. \nIf you have questions or would like additional information please do not hesitate to contact: Carol Havens havenscs@gmail.com  812-453-8654  Cara Steinkuhl carasteinkuhl@gmail.com 812-455-4321 or Jamie Levy jlevy@jdlevyassociates.com

SUMMARY:Grant Writing for Systems Change
DESCRIPTION:Many advocacy organizations and others involved in systems-change encounter fundraising challenges on multiple fronts. It can be difficult to identify and develop relationships with grantmakers interested in supporting this work\, and it requires skill to illustrate the impact of such work in a way that resonates with funders. The outcomes of systems change and advocacy work are more nuanced\, and making the case for funding such programs requires a specialized style of grant writing. \nJoin Elevate and GrantStation for a webinar covering the basics of grant writing for systems change. Elevate will start with a few definitions and information about lobbying\, and then move into a few more advanced concepts\, such as identifying aligned funders and defining activities\, outputs\, and outcomes in grant proposals. Grant Writing for Systems Change will be held on August 20 at 2:00 pm Eastern time. Register today and save your seat! \n\n\nDescription: \nIf you’re doing advocacy or systems change work\, you may face challenges on two key fronts: identifying and cultivating funders who support this kind of work\, and clearly illustrating the impact your efforts create. Because systems change and advocacy can be more challenging to explain than direct service work\, you’ll need to describe your work differently to make a compelling case for funding.During this webinar\, Eric Spioch of Elevate will explore the complexities of fundraising for advocacy activities\, including those that complement direct service work. \nYou’ll learn: \n\nthe basics of systems change work\, including key definitions and the role of lobbying;\nhow to prospect and identify mission-aligned funders who support advocacy;\nways to cultivate strong relationships with funders invested in systems change;\nhow to define your activities\, outputs\, and outcomes to demonstrate impact; and\,\nhow to prepare compelling grant applications that effectively communicate the value of your advocacy initiatives.\n\nYou’ll leave with skills to properly prepare for and construct an effective grant application for nuanced advocacy work including tools to define their organization’s impact within a systems change framework. \nWho should attend: \nThis session is designed with beginners in mind. It is ideal for development staff and nonprofit professionals from organizations with limited experience in fundraising specifically for systems change work. \nAfter the webinar\, you’ll receive: \n\nslides and handouts;\na link to the webinar recording\n\n\n\n\n Full participation in this webinar is applicable for 1.5 points in Category 1.B -Education of the CFRE International application for initial certification and/or recertification.

SUMMARY:Sustain Abilities (3 of 6)
DESCRIPTION:This joint participation facilitates embedding the learnings into both staff and the full board. Each successive year builds on the basic topics covered in the year prior with the intention of building board culture and staff/board alignment. There are 4 “advancing” levels\, with an “alumni” opportunity which is an opportunity for agencies previously engaged to begin again if leadership has changed or if other members of leadership have been identified for attendance to assist the organization with embedding the learning. Two members (board president or designated board member and ED)\, partner through this cohort-based learning experience\, building communication effectiveness and implementation strength. In Sustain Abilities\, the focus is on more engaged boards\, building board culture\, deeper donor relationships\, with a financial plan developed by the end of the program\, working toward long-term sustainability. Such things as capital campaign readiness assessment\, donor communications\, and planned giving are discussed. The deliverables at the end of the program are a richer understanding of the success factors and an action plan for incorporating them into the board and staff “DNA”. (Outcome measurement provided by JDLA).
