SUMMARY:SAVI Data Literacy Skills Training – Module 4A: Tell Stories with Data
DESCRIPTION:This VIRTUAL workshop will help you apply the skills learned in other workshops to your own real-world\, data-informed project. The workshop instructor will reach out to you prior to the workshop to discuss your project and to help you identify the data and other information you will need to bring to this workshop to be successful. \nThis offering is hosted by The Polis Center\, the creators of SAVI. Through this offering\, they will use the Central Indiana map\, but the lessons remain the same for Southern Indiana region. \nThis workshop teaches the next steps of persuasively communicating what you have learned after gaining initial insight from data. You will learn the skills to put your analysis in the context of a compelling narrative and to build your argument logically and convincingly. Whatever your audience\, weaving the data into a story is what communicates your findings to others\, whether it be a small data set\, large data set\, or multiple data sets. \nWHO SHOULD ATTEND? \nAnyone interested in taking the next step from understanding their data and visualizing it\, to telling a cohesive story to others about their data. \nWHAT WILL YOU LEARN? \n\nTo find the compelling narrative in your data\nTo connect facts that build a compelling argument\nTo use compelling graphics to communicate your point\nTo tailor your delivery to your audiences needs\n\nUSEFUL KNOWLEDGE TO HAVE BEFORE ATTENDING \nNo prior knowledge is required\, but you may find it useful to attend the Module 1A: Framing the Problem workshop prior to this one. In that workshop you learn how to frame problems so that you have specific and measurable questions that can help you meet your goals. You may also want to consider attending the Module 2A: Finding Existing Data workshop which explores where to find existing data and how to choose the right data source for answering your questions. \nRegister Here

DESCRIPTION:Description of SAVI Super User Learning Series\nParticipants will have the confidence to use SAVI and to provide limited technical assistance to others on the mechanics of SAVI\, as well as the basics of data literacy\, pitfalls\, sense-making\, storytelling\, and informed decision-making. \nWho should attend?\nIdeal participants are those that are looking to have a more in-depth understanding of SAVI mechanics\, basics of data literacy\, pitfalls\, sensemaking\, storytelling and informed decision making. \nUseful knowledge before attending?\nSome experience working with data and familiarity with SAVI may be helpful. For those who wish to gain a deeper understanding of SAVI beforehand\, attending a SAVI 101 session is highly recommended. \nAll training offerings will be virtual.
