    Using the Mobility Metrics: A Data-Driven Workshop for Local Leaders

    Join us for a virtual workshop featuring experts from the Urban Institute’s Upward Mobility Initiative. This session provides a deeper dive into the practical application of the Mobility Metrics and how they can be used to drive positive change within communities. The workshop will feature the following: - A live demo of the Upward Mobility Data Dashboard, showcasing its features and functionalities. - A hands-on exercise to examine and compare your community’s data, identifying key areas for improvement. - Speakers from communities using these data to understand and address conditions that enhance upward mobility for residents. These speakers will share their experiences and insights, offering practical examples of how the data are being applied to make meaningful progress. Facilitators will demonstrate how to use local data to assess community conditions and monitor progress toward upward mobility and racial equity. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and gain valuable insights into creating lasting change in their communities. By harnessing data related to economic success, dignity and belonging, and power and autonomy, local leaders can identify strengths and areas for improvement and develop targeted strategies to enhance upward mobility for all residents, especially those historically excluded from prosperity.

    The Value of Place: How to Enhance your Teaching and Research with Free Mapping and Spatial Analysis Tools Webinar

    This webinar showcases a range of powerful desktop and online mapping and spatial analysis tools, data, and other resources designed to enhance higher education teaching, service, and research activities. These resources are versatile and applicable across numerous disciplines, including health, public safety, public policy, economics, history, archaeology, geography, planning, informatics, and more. A key feature of the webinar is SAVI, an online platform offering free interactive mapping and analysis tools, downloadable databases, reports, and data literacy workshops. SAVI provides access to thousands of data variables detailing the socio-economic characteristics of Indiana communities over multiple decades. Data themes include demographic trends, social determinants of health, social services, crime, education, and more. The webinar will also present examples of how SAVI resources have been utilized to support university research and teaching. Additionally, the webinar introduces ArcGIS Online, a tool for creating customized, interactive maps and dashboards that can enrich course content and support research. Participants will also learn about the extensive array of Indiana demographic and environmental geospatial data resources and training available to faculty and students.

    Informing the Context for Philanthropic Work Grantmaking 101 is a two-day course that helps staff and board members new to philanthropy better understand the sector. This interactive course will present a historical overview of philanthropy, review a foundation's leadership and governance structure, provide an overview of grantmaking practices, explore the various roles within philanthropy, and touch on emerging trends. Learning Objectives The Purpose of Philanthropy: Understand the history of philanthropy and the national and local infrastructure supporting it. Learn how funding practices are related to foundation type,  when it was created, and its funding goals. The Practice of Philanthropy: Learn effective grant management processes, including accepting proposals, reviewing proposals, making decisions, managing grants, and measuring success. The People of Philanthropy: Review a foundation's leadership and governance. Understand how to develop fruitful relationships with stakeholders. This program will be limited to 15 participants.     An Advanced Guide to Philanthropic Effectiveness Grantmaking 201 is a two-day course that offers a next-level look at effective grant management processes. We will dig deep into emerging trends and learn strategies to refine the purpose, enhance the practice, and maximize the impact of your giving. Learning Objectives Purpose of Philanthropy Develop strategies to match your goals and priorities using six grantmaking models: responsive, strategic, proactive, collaborative, initiative, and participatory. Discuss trends shaping philanthropy, such as strategic grantmaking and impact investing. Learn how to stay nimble, adapt, and earn trust. Practice of Philanthropy Explore effective grant management processes, including developing and communicating criteria, accepting and reviewing applications, conducting site visits, communicating funding decisions, and measuring effectiveness. Learn how to read and review key financial documents, including IRS Form 990, grant budgets, audit reports, balance sheets, and income statements.
