Community foundation leaders come from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences, and inevitably face new challenges leading this unique type of nonprofit. Join this series of casual lunchtime calls about leadership, featuring conversations with longtime community foundation CEOs and GIFT experts in the field. Each virtual session will highlight scenarios you may encounter and tips for building a team of leaders you can consult when faced with new challenges. More details will be available soon. The most successful nonprofit boards have a collaborative team culture, working as a governing team in partnership with the executive. The starting point for building this culture involves a shared understanding of the work and the line between management and governance. Board dynamics (the interpersonal relations between board members and senior staff) have a high level of importance to the board’s governing effectiveness. Exceptional boards govern in constructive partnership with the chief executive and staff, recognizing the effectiveness of this relationship is interdependent.
